Eleven New Democracy MPs question Energy Minister on electricity prices
Eleven New Democracy (ND) Members of Parliament have submitted a formal question to Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou regarding the persistently high electricity prices affecting both households and businesses in Greece.
The MPs are calling for legislative measures, protections for households and enterprises, and reforms to the operation of the Hellenic Energy Exchange, arguing that the current system unfairly links wholesale electricity prices to costly fossil fuels rather than renewable energy sources (RES).
In their submission, the MPs request clarification from the Minister on the following three points:
Legislative Measures: What legislative steps will be taken to ensure that the lower costs of renewable energy sources are reflected in retail electricity prices for consumers?
Industrial Competitiveness: What measures will the government adopt to prevent high energy costs from eroding the competitiveness of Greek industrial enterprises?
Market Reform: What reforms are planned for the Hellenic Energy Exchange to prevent wholesale electricity prices from being determined by the most expensive Marginal Price, which is currently influenced by high fossil fuel prices rather than RES production costs?
The question was signed by the following ND MPs:
Giorgos Vlachos
Dimitris Kalogeropoulos
Theodoros Karaoglou
Andreas Katsaniotis
