Doctors and pharmacists set up the 3.5 million fraud
Two complaints that reached the hands of the police from EOPYY led to the disclosure of the fraud involving doctors and pharmacists.
The first document that reached HEL.AS., on 18/10/2023, was from the Complaints Control Department of EOPYY, and it concerned two cases of insured persons who complained that illegal prescriptions of pharmaceutical preparations were found in their AMKA without their knowledge, by a pathologist who lives and works in Cyprus as a general practitioner, came to Greece by plane at regular intervals and did some on-call duty in Antikyra and Distomo, while the executions of these had taken place in pharmacies that had not been visited.
The insured person allegedly complained that: "On 28-05-2023 I received a message on my mobile phone regarding the issuance of a prescription for the medicinal preparation HIPNOSDON by the doctor ..., which was carried out the next day at the pharmacy named ..., with registered office in Agios Panteleimon, Attica, on the street...".
In fact, she called the pharmacy to ask for an explanation, with the pharmacist replying that it was a mistake and canceling the execution of the prescription.
As for the second insured, she allegedly complained that sixteen prescriptions were issued to her AMKA during the period from 04-14-2015 to 11-11-2015, which were filled in a pharmacy in Sepolia, Attica, belonging to one of the defendants.
The second document of the Directorate of Medicines/EOPYY dated 15-12-2023 concerns a case of prescriptions in AMKA of patients with zero participation, by a gynecologist, his wife a cardiologist in a large hospital and a dentist from Romania.
