Deadly prison clash in Northern Greece leaves two dead
A violent brawl at Nigrita Prison in northern Greece has left two inmates dead, prompting a major police response and multiple arrests.
Arrests and weapons seized
Authorities said 11 suspects have been arrested following the incident. During a raid inside the prison, officers recovered improvised weapons, including makeshift knives and wooden planks believed to have been used in the attack.
Police sources identified two main suspects—a Georgian and an Albanian national—while the remaining nine individuals are accused of participating in the violence.
Victims and unclear motive
The victims, reportedly an Iranian and an Algerian national, were killed during the clash. Their full identities have not yet been released, and the cause of the fight remains under investigation.
Emergency response
Prison staff intervened to contain the situation, providing first aid to the injured while calling emergency services. Ambulances from EKAV transported victims as authorities worked to restore order inside the facility.
