Deadline extended for plot cleaning: New date is June 15
Komotini Municipality has announced that, in accordance with the 2025 decision of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the deadline for clearing plots and open spaces has been extended to June 15.
Property owners are required to submit their cleaning declarations via the National Preventive Fire Protection Measures Registration Platform or the official civil protection website.
Who Is Responsible?
The legal obligation to clear land applies to:
- Owners, beneficiaries, tenants, or sub-tenants of plots and open areas.
- These obligations apply if the property is located:
- Within city plan limits
- In settlements not covered by plans but considered residential
- Within 100 meters of the above areas
- In non-urban areas with structures, excluding forest law zones (with notification to forest authorities).
This obligation is valid throughout the fire season (May 1 – October 31) and aims to prevent the outbreak or spread of wildfires.
Exemptions
Maintained gardens and cultivated fields are exempt from this requirement.
Cleaning Guidelines
The required cleaning procedures include:
- Cutting and removing dry or broken trees/branches, including those touching buildings
- Removing combustible plant debris such as dry leaves and brush
- Pruning lower tree branches to raise canopy height and thinning dense shrubbery
- Clearing flammable or explosive waste and abandoned items
- Safely collecting and transporting the removed waste
Failure to comply by the deadline may result in fines for property owners.
