Beef prices surge up to 57% ahead of this year’s christmas season
Consumers are facing sharp increases in beef prices this holiday season, with certain cuts rising by as much as 57% compared to last year. The price hikes come just days before the peak of the Christmas holidays, a period traditionally marked by higher meat consumption.
According to the “market butcher’s price list” published on December 3, 2025, by the Central Markets and Fisheries Organization (OKAA), the largest year-on-year increase was recorded in beef liver, which has jumped to €10.98 per kilo, up from €6.98 on December 3, 2024—a 57% rise.
Fresh beef osso buco also saw a substantial rise of 50%, reaching €14.98 per kilo, up from €9.98 last year.
Imported lean ground beef rose by 33%, now priced at €11.98 per kilo compared to €8.98 in 2024.
Fresh Greek beef brisket increased by 30%, now costing €12.98 per kilo, up from €9.98 last December.
Greek fresh milk-fed lamb also became more expensive, registering a 7.7% increase, priced at €13.98 per kilo compared to €12.98 last year.
