Year-end school holiday schedule in Greece announced
In Greece, schools will close for the year-end holiday on Monday, December 23, due to Christmas falling on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. This means December 23 will be the last school day for students before the holiday break.
This final day before the break holds special significance for Christian students and teachers, with many schools celebrating with Christmas-themed events, musical performances, and festive games instead of regular classes. Students and teachers begin the holiday spirit together, marking the occasion with joyful celebrations. As a result, no classes will be held on December 23, with students officially starting their holiday after the festivities.
Following Christmas and New Year’s, classes will resume on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. This start date comes after the Epiphany (Theofania) holiday, allowing students an extended holiday break before returning to their studies.
All schools, including those serving the Muslim Turkish minority in Western Thrace, will also observe the holiday, even if they do not celebrate Christmas.
