Asset freezes in 55 cases linked to OPEKEPE subsidy fraud

Greece’s Financial Police have issued 55 orders to freeze assets, including bank deposits and properties, in cases linked to fraudulent subsidy claims submitted to OPEKEPE, the Greek Payment and Control Agency for Guidance and Guarantee Community Aid.

According to Kathimerini, the total value of the frozen assets amounts to around €1.5 million, roughly equivalent to the funds that were unlawfully disbursed through falsified declarations.

Authorities are investigating around 5,000 suspicious tax identification numbers (AFMs). From this list, about 200 individuals have already been identified for asset-freeze procedures, either underway or imminent.

The government is expected to make official announcements on the matter by the end of August.
