Apostolos Vesyropoulos, ND Parliamentary Secretary, dies at 59
Apostolos Vesyropoulos, General Secretary of the New Democracy Parliamentary Group, former Deputy Minister of Finance, and MP for Imathia, passed away on Thursday at the age of 59 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
According to party sources, Vesyropoulos collapsed shortly before 1:00 p.m. while at a seaside café-bar in Sithonia, Halkidiki. Emergency medical services (EKAB) responded immediately, with rescuers performing CPR on site. A paramedic who was off duty and present at the scene also initiated resuscitation efforts. Despite continued attempts and his transfer to the Health Center of Agios Nikolaos for specialized treatment, doctors were unable to revive him.
EKAB dispatched one ambulance and one rapid-response motorcycle unit, with a total of four paramedics taking part in the rescue effort.
A Long Political Career
Born in Veria on May 29, 1966, Apostolos Vesyropoulos had a long-standing political presence in New Democracy. Since April 4, 2025, he served as General Secretary of the party’s Parliamentary Group. Between August 2023 and March 2025, he was Chairman of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament.
From July 2019 to June 2023, he served as Deputy Minister of Finance, responsible for Tax Policy and Public Property, in the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Vesyropoulos is survived by his wife, professor Katerina Katsavou, and their two children.
