Athens, 23 April 2025 – The 23 April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in the Turkish Embassy in Athens. The event, hosted by Turkish Ambassador Çağatay Erciyes, brought together children and their families for a day of meaningful commemoration and joyous festivity.

The ceremony began with all children singing the Turkish National Anthem (İstiklal Marşı) in unison. In his opening speech, Ambassador Erciyes reflected on the historical importance of the day: “The founder of our Republic, the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, led the struggle for independence. One of the most significant milestones of this struggle was the establishment of our national assembly 105 years ago — the voice of the people.”

He emphasized that April 23 is especially meaningful as it was a gift from Atatürk to children, reminding them, “You are the guarantee of Türkiye’s future.”

Following the ambassador’s address, children took the stage. Duru Hançer quoted Atatürk’s timeless words to children: “Little ladies, little gentlemen, you are the roses, stars, and shining hopes of the future. You are the ones who will bring true light to the country. Know your value and work accordingly. We expect a lot from you.”

Ertuğrul Erbil and Emir Ateş contributed to the atmosphere by reciting poems dedicated to the day. The celebration continued with a musical performance — all the children sang the song “Rejoice little ones, be proud grown-ups” accompanied by pianist Nazlı Hacialioğlu.

In a symbolic gesture, Ambassador Erciyes handed over his seat to the children, giving them a brief but memorable ambassadorial experience. The event concluded with face painting and dance activities, creating cherished memories for all participants.
