A total of 145 migrants were rescued in the last 24 hours in the sea area south of the island of Gavdos, near Crete, authorities said.

This morning, a Coast Guard patrol boat, assisted by a drone of Frontex, the EU’s border agency, located and rescued 36 foreign nationals on board a boat. The rescued were safely transferred to the port of Sfakia.

On Monday, in the same sea area, a Frontex vessel, with the assistance of a passing ship, rescued 43 foreigners from a dinghy eight nautical miles south of Gavdos, who were transferred to the island’s port. Another 66 people were rescued from a dinghy 14 nautical miles south the same island and were also taken to the port.
