Low demand seen for gas transport via vertical corridor
Interest in transporting natural gas through the so-called “vertical corridor” remained limited in an auction held on Monday for February capacity.
According to sources, a single bid was submitted for the transport of 48 megawatt hours via the Revithoussa LNG terminal, while no interest was recorded for routes through the Dedeağaç (Alexandroupolis) floating LNG terminal or the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
Officials at the Ministry of National Economy attributed the weak response to ongoing geopolitical uncertainty and an unclear EU stance, noting that while Brussels has moved to phase out Russian gas supplies, regulatory issues surrounding alternative routes remain unresolved.
The vertical corridor links Greece’s gas network with the Balkans and extends as far as Ukraine. No bids were submitted in similar auctions held in December, although ministry sources said they remain optimistic that interest will increase in upcoming tenders.
