EU fuel prices rise 16.9% in July
Fuel and lubricant prices for personal transport across the European Union rose 16.9% year-on-year in July, according to data released by Eurostat.
The annual increase followed a 20.7% rise in May and a 13.7% increase in June, showing that fuel price growth remained elevated across the bloc.
Romania leads annual increases
Fuel prices rose in 25 of the EU’s 27 member states compared with July 2025.
Romania recorded the steepest annual increase at 24.2%, followed by Germany and Lithuania, both at 22.9%.
Hungary was the only country to register a decline, with prices falling marginally by 0.1%. Sweden and Ireland recorded the smallest annual increases, at 1.2% and 3.2%, respectively.
Diesel and gasoline prices rise monthly
EU diesel prices increased 4.3% between June and July, while gasoline prices rose 4.7%.
Diesel prices climbed in 17 member states. Poland recorded the largest increase at 13.4%, followed by Germany at 12.7% and Greece at 12.1%.
Nine countries recorded lower diesel prices, with Cyprus posting the sharpest decline at 7.9%.
Gasoline prices show mixed trend
Gasoline prices increased in 14 EU countries between June and July, while 12 recorded declines.
Poland saw the largest monthly increase, with gasoline prices rising 17.2%. Sweden recorded the biggest decrease, at 11.1%.
The latest figures point to continued volatility in European fuel markets, with significant differences in price movements across member states.
