Greece plans new market pass and €300 annual benefit
The Greek government is preparing new financial support for vulnerable households, with a new Market Pass and an annual benefit of around €300 expected to be announced in September.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to reveal the final amounts at the Thessaloniki International Fair.
Market pass targets 200,000 households
More than 200,000 vulnerable households could receive a digital food voucher under the planned Market Pass.
The main proposal would cover people who received the Minimum Guaranteed Income after March 1, 2024. Monthly support would start at €40 for single-person households and rise according to family size.
Retroactive payments could reach up to €1,200 for some beneficiaries, covering as much as 30 months.
Annual benefit could reach €400
The government also plans to provide an annual payment in November to about 1.7 million people, including low-income pensioners, people with disabilities and uninsured elderly people.
Indicative income limits are €25,000 for single pensioners and €35,000 for married couples.
The final amounts have not been decided, with the annual payment potentially rising to €350 or €400 depending on available fiscal resources.
