Greek authority intensifies fuel market inspections

Greece’s Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection (DIMEA) announced an immediate and intensified intervention in the fuel market, amid heightened geopolitical tensions and concerns over energy prices.

Since Saturday afternoon, the authority has been monitoring in real time the evolution of gasoline and diesel prices, as well as fuel availability at filling stations nationwide.

DIMEA said the aim is to safeguard fair competition and protect consumers from unjustified price hikes and profiteering. In light of developments in the Middle East that could affect energy markets, it has activated an extensive inspection plan targeting fuel stations across the country.

The authority stressed that no form of speculation will be tolerated and that inspections will be continuous, targeted and strict. From Monday and throughout the coming week, checks will be further intensified with reinforced teams and an expanded nationwide presence.

Consumer protection remains an absolute priority, DIMEA said, adding that it stands ready to intervene immediately in cases of market distortion.
