Average unleaded gasoline prices in Greece have fallen by 15 euro cents per litre over the past month as easing tensions in the Middle East and lower global crude oil prices filtered through to the domestic market.

Data from the Development Ministry's Fuel Price Observatory showed that the average nationwide price of 95-octane gasoline dropped to 1.968 euros per litre from 2.119 euros on May 18.

Diesel prices also declined, falling 11 cents to 1.697 euros per litre from 1.815 euros a month earlier.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis had recently called for international declines in crude oil prices to be reflected more directly in retail fuel prices.

Since last Sunday, pump prices have fallen by a further 3 cents per litre for unleaded gasoline and 4 cents for diesel. The latest decline followed a 60-day agreement between the United States and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and begin talks aimed at a longer-term settlement.
