Greece’s unemployment rate drops to 8.6% in Q2 2025
The unemployment rate in Greece fell to 8.6% in the second quarter of 2025, according to data released on Monday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
The labour force survey highlighted notable improvements in both employment and unemployment figures:
Employment: The number of employed persons reached 4,386,832, marking a 4.0% increase compared to the first quarter of 2025 and a 1.4% rise year-on-year.
Unemployment: The number of unemployed persons dropped to 411,722, showing a sharp decrease of 15.7% from the previous quarter and a 12.0% decline compared to Q2 2024.
Labour force participation: People outside the labour force—those neither working nor actively seeking employment—stood at 4,205,058. Among them, individuals under the age of 75 totaled 2,965,238, down 3.3% from Q1 2025 and 1.0% from the same quarter last year.
The report noted that Greece’s unemployment rate has continued to decline steadily, falling from 10.4% in Q1 2025 and 9.8% in Q2 2024, to reach its current level of 8.6%.
