Significant quantities of smuggled goods, illegal substances and undeclared cash were seized in the first quarter of 2025, according to data released by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).

The results stem from intensified customs inspections between January and March, supported by modern digital tools, X-ray scanners and specially trained sniffer dogs.

Inspectors seized a wide array of undeclared currency, including 310 euros, 142,535 US dollars, 25,000 Australian dollars, 920 Israeli shekels, 6,915 Bulgarian leva, 849,015 Turkish liras, 9,000 British pounds, 97,000 Serbian dinars, 11,050 North Macedonia denars, 1,550,000 Iraqi dinars, 129,000 Hungarian forints, 400 Chinese yuan and 29,250 Ukrainian hryvnias.

Authorities also confiscated checks worth 37,316 euros and 4,779,261 Turkish liras, along with 39 gold sovereigns valued at 113,258 euros and one gold bar.

In the fight against tobacco smuggling, customs officials intercepted 571,310 cigarettes, 465 kilos of loose tobacco and 4,600 e-cigarettes.

On the narcotics front, they confiscated 94 kilos of cannabis and 15 kilos of cocaine.

Inspections also revealed 260 liters of illegal alcoholic beverages and a complete still, along with 180 liters of ethyl alcohol.

In addition, 712 other counterfeit products were confiscated.
