AADE launches electronic cross-checks for uninsured vehicles

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) is set to begin inspections on uninsured vehicles, as well as those vehicles that do not have the certificates from the Vehicle Technical Inspection Centres (KTEO) or have not paid their traffic taxes.

According to initial estimates, uninsured vehicles amount to approximately 500,000, while more than 2 million have not undergone a technical inspection, creating serious risks for road safety.

The checks will be carried out electronically twice a year, through data checks, and violators will face strict fines, which start at 250 euros and in cases of repeated violations, can reach up to 30,000 euros.

More specifically:

Uninsured vehicles:

-1,000-euro fine for public transport buses and commercial trucks

-500-euro fine for passenger cars and other vehicles

-250-euro fine for motorcycles

Unpaid road taxes:

If a vehicle owes at least one year of road tax, the fine will equal the amount of the unpaid tax plus the full amount of the annual road tax due.

Missing technical inspection (KTEO):

Owners of vehicles that have not undergone the mandatory technical inspection will face a 400-euro fine.
