Turkish suspects in attack on Greek agents arrested in Bulgaria

Two Turkish nationals wanted by Greek authorities in connection with a recent shooting targeting agents of the Greek National Intelligence Service (EYP) in Thessaloniki have been arrested in Bulgaria, judicial sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The suspects were located following an international manhunt triggered by the attack, which occurred in the Thermi area of Thessaloniki. The Thessaloniki Appeals Prosecutor's Office reported that the extradition process is now underway, with Greek judicial authorities submitting a formal request to their Bulgarian counterparts.
According to investigators, the two men are accused of complicity in attempted homicide. Greek authorities had issued arrest warrants for both individuals after they fled the country, apparently crossing the border into Bulgaria on foot.
Their arrest follows the earlier capture of a 49-year-old Turkish national, believed to be the main perpetrator who opened fire on the EYP agents. He was detained on Saturday morning in a remote shed near the village of Kato Vyrsini, located in the mountainous Rodopi region of northern Greece.
The 49-year-old suspect faces serious charges including attempted homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and illegal use of weapons. He is scheduled to appear before a Thessaloniki examining magistrate on Wednesday. Authorities believe he was attempting to find an escape route into Bulgaria when he was apprehended.
The Greek Ministry of Justice has emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation in tackling organized crime and protecting national security. Investigations into the motive and potential broader connections of the suspects are ongoing.
