Turkish mobsters believed to have fled to Bulgaria after shooting in Greece

Greek authorities are searching for three Turkish nationals linked to a recent shooting involving intelligence officers, with growing suspicions that the suspects may have crossed into Bulgaria to evade arrest.
The incident occurred earlier this week when the suspects, driving a gray Toyota, opened fire on a vehicle carrying Greek intelligence agents in Athens. Officials believe the gunmen mistook the agents for rival gang members amid escalating underworld tensions.
One of the suspects had previously been arrested during a major police operation in February, following the fatal shooting of a 39-year-old Turkish citizen near the Macedonia bus terminal in Thessaloniki — an event widely seen as part of a broader gang war.
All three suspects are believed to be members of the Turkish criminal group known as the “Daltons,” led by fugitive mob boss Baris Boyun. The organization is implicated in multiple cases of drug trafficking and targeted killings.
According to Greek police, two of the suspects have applied for political asylum in Greece, while the third holds a valid visa. Authorities now suspect the trio may have fled through northern border crossings into Bulgaria, taking advantage of the Schengen zone's lack of border checks.
The case has also triggered internal tensions between the Hellenic Police and the National Intelligence Service over operational miscommunication during the incident.
