Youth Academics launch “12 months, 12 acts of kindness” project in Western Thrace

A youth-led academic group in Western Thrace has launched a year-long social responsibility initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable communities, beginning with aid for stray animals.

The Young Academics Community (GAT), operating under the umbrella of the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association, announced the launch of its new project titled “12 Months, 12 Acts of Kindness.”

First Step: Supporting Stray Animals
The initiative’s first activity focused on feeding stray dogs in Komotini and nearby villages. According to a statement shared on the group’s social media accounts, volunteers distributed pet food to help improve the conditions of animals living on the streets.

“Being able to make even a small difference in their silent world—sometimes with just a bowl of food—means a lot to us,” the group said.

“Let’s remember that a society’s compassion is measured by how it treats its most vulnerable beings.”
Collaboration with Local Organizations

As part of the first phase of the project, GAT also provided food donations to the Yassikoy Municipality and the Gümülcine Animal Welfare Association, strengthening local efforts to care for stray animals.

Group members emphasized that small individual contributions, when combined, can create meaningful social impact.

Through the “12 Months, 12 Acts of Kindness” initiative, GAT plans to carry out a different social responsibility activity each month, targeting various segments of society.

The group aims to build sustained engagement throughout the year, promoting community solidarity and encouraging volunteerism across Western Thrace.
