Wood and Pellet prices are on fire

Compared to last year, wood prices in the market in Western Thrace have increased by 2 times and pellet prices by 3 times.

Increasing prices after the approaching winter and the energy crisis in the world are also making itself felt in the wood and pellet market.

Wood prices have doubled compared to last year. Currently, the price of 1 ton of wood in the Western Thrace market varies between 250 and 280 euros. The price of 1 ton of pellets is almost 3 times of last year. In the market, 1 ton of pellets is sold for 550 euros.

Citizens are worried about the upcoming winter, the exorbitant increase in energy and fuels. Considering the need for approximately 6 tons of wood to heat a house of 100 square meters, a cost of at least 1500 euros arises. This is twice the minimum wage in the country. So, on average, a family will have to spend two months' income on fuel to survive the winter.

In addition, wood aids for citizens living in mountainous regions, especially in Xanthi and Rhodope provinces, were far below expectations. For example, according to the statement made by Xanthi Forestry Directorate, 1.5 to 2.5 tons of wood aid will be provided to citizens living within the borders of Miki (Mustafçova) Municipality. Considering the harsh winter conditions in the mountainous region, the wood aid is far below what is expected. Citizens demand increased wood aid.
