New fire protection system in Xanthi through public-private partnership
A new fire prevention and response system for forest fires in Xanthi will be officially handed over on Thursday, May 15, 2025, during a ceremony in Mitropoleos Square in Xanthi’s Old Town. The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Municipality of Xanthi, the JTI Foundation, and the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
The project, implemented under a Memorandum of Understanding among the three parties, aims to enhance wildfire preparedness and response capacity in the region.
Key components of the project include:
- The installation of an electronic wildfire detection system,
- Development of logistical infrastructure for firefighting resupply operations, and
- Equipment support for the Xanthi Fire Department and the Municipality’s Civil Protection team.
The Mayor of Xanthi, Efstratios Kondos, and the General Director of JTI Hellas, Janine Neuhaus, are expected to attend the handover ceremony.
This initiative underscores the growing importance of public-private partnerships in addressing environmental risks and improving local resilience in the face of escalating climate threats.
