The General Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has released its monthly report on road safety and traffic law enforcement for February 2026, covering the regional units of Meriç (Evros), Rhodope, İskeçe (Xanthi), Kavala, Thasos, and Drama. The report includes comparative statistics from the same month last year.

During February 2026, a total of 11 traffic accidents were recorded, compared to 17 in February 2025. The breakdown of these incidents is as follows:

1 fatal accident (down from 2 in 2025)

1 serious accident (same as 2025)

9 minor accidents (down from 14 in 2025)

Across urban and rural areas, there were 14 casualties, compared to 21 in February 2025:

1 death (down from 2 in 2025)

1 serious injury (same as 2025)

12 minor injuries (down from 18 in 2025)

Police investigations identified the main causes of accidents as excessive speed, traffic sign violations, driver distraction, and failure to maintain a safe distance.

Authorities noted that the decline in accidents reflects ongoing efforts to improve road safety and traffic law enforcement across the region.
