Upgraded Kipi Border Station ready by summer 2026

The Kipi land customs station at the Greek-Turkish border in Evros is set to undergo a major upgrade, with construction works totaling €13 million, announced Greek Minister of Interior Theodoros Livanios.
The project aims to improve the station’s functionality, infrastructure, and aesthetics by the summer of 2026.
Minister Livanios emphasized that upgrading the country’s border crossings is a top priority, pointing to ongoing projects like the reconstruction of the Evzoni station—the country’s busiest land border crossing—with an estimated budget exceeding €22 million.
The Evzoni project is expected to be completed within 14 months after contract signing.
Speaking at the Balkan Forum in Thessaloniki, Mr. Livanios also mentioned the launch of a new border post in Lemos, Prespes, funded by the Interreg program. This project includes careful environmental planning due to its sensitive location and will be followed by improvements at Greece’s border crossings with Albania.
Highlighting the Balkans as a vital hub between East and West, the Minister noted the region’s potential in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. He called for enhanced cross-border cooperation and sustainable development, underlining the role of technology and AI in tackling regional and global challenges.
