Tragic death in Dedeağaç: 3-year-old child brought to hospital dead

The death of a nearly three-year-old child in the city of Alexandroupoli (Dedeağaç) has caused deep sorrow across the local community. Authorities have launched a forensic investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

According to reports, the child was taken by his mother to the Dedeağaç University General Hospital, where doctors confirmed that the child had already died by the time of arrival.

The definitive cause of death is expected to be clarified following an autopsy to be carried out today by forensic pathology professor Pavlos Pavlidis. Officials stated that initial findings raise strong suspicions of severe malnutrition, while other possible pathological causes are also being examined.

Suspicion of severe malnutrition

Local media reported that the child appeared extremely underweight during the external examination, with a body described as almost skeletal. This observation has intensified concerns that serious nutritional deficiency may have played a role in the child’s death.

Mother under police supervision

As part of the investigation, the child’s mother has been placed under police supervision until the forensic report is completed. Authorities said the course of legal proceedings will be determined based on the autopsy results.

Family background

According to available information, the child was living in an Dedeağaç neighborhood with his mother and two younger siblings, while the father is reportedly working abroad.

Following the incident, hospital staff and police officers sought information from the mother regarding the child’s living conditions and medical history. The investigation is ongoing in all aspects.
