Topsidis: “Regions must lead – Development should be born where we live and create”

During the General Assembly of the Union of Greek Regions (ENPE), the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christodoulos Topsidis, emphasized that the new era for Local Government is not limited to institutional or administrative changes but reflects a broader shift in governance philosophy.

“We discussed a new philosophy of governance—one in which the Region leads. Where decisions are made closer to the citizen. Where development does not come from ‘outside,’ but is born where we live, work, and create,” Topsidis stated.

He stressed that Eastern Macedonia and Thrace understands both responsibility and potential:
“We live at the borders, yet we think at the center of developments.”

From energy and infrastructure to social cohesion and sustainable growth, he noted that the Region is demonstrating how Local Government can change both the pace and direction of progress for the entire country.

“The restart of Local Government is not a simple reform. It is a new beginning—one grounded in confidence, cooperation, and belief in our strengths.

Because the Greece we want is built every day, in the Regions that believe in their capabilities and in their people,” he concluded.
