TİKA President Abdullah Eren congratulates Çiğdem Asafoğlu and FEP Party
Abdullah Eren, President of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), congratulated Çiğdem Asafoğlu on her re-election as Chair of the Friendship, Equality, Peace (FEP) Party at its 7th Ordinary General Assembly.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Eren highlighted the party’s significance in defending the rights of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace and expressed solidarity:
“I wholeheartedly congratulate Mrs. Çiğdem Asafoğlu, re-elected as Chair of the FEP Party, and her esteemed colleagues. I am confident that the party will continue its determined struggle for the rights of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority with the same dedication and responsibility in this new term. As always, we will stand by our compatriots in Western Thrace and continue to walk with them in their just cause. I once again congratulate the new leadership and wish them lasting success.”
The FEP Party’s Role in Greek Politics
Founded in 1989 by Dr. Sadık Ahmet, the FEP Party holds a unique position as a political representative of the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace. While Greece’s electoral system prevents the party from entering parliament, its strong performance in European Parliament elections demonstrates the continued support of the minority community.
The party has consistently advocated for issues such as identity, education, religious freedoms, and equal citizenship, serving as a voice for a community often marginalized or ignored in Greek politics. Though not a decisive force in national politics, FEP remains a vital instrument in the struggle for minority rights.
Under the leadership of Çiğdem Asafoğlu, the party’s continued commitment carries both symbolic and practical importance for the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace. Eren’s congratulatory message is also seen as a reflection of Turkey’s support for this ongoing struggle.
