Three foreign nationals were arrested on Friday in separate incidents across the Meriç (Evros) border region for allegedly smuggling irregular migrants into Greece, police authorities said.

According to the Kumçiftliği (Orestiada) Police Directorate, the first suspect was apprehended in the rural area while driving a private car carrying five undocumented migrants.

Later that day, officers from the Dimetoka (Didymoteicho) Border Guard Department detained a second man who was found transporting four migrants in a private vehicle.

In a third case, at the Çörekköy (Kastanies) Border Crossing Point, officers from the Kumçiftliği (Orestiada) Narcotics Division discovered two migrants concealed in a specially designed compartment inside a smuggler’s vehicle.

All three suspects were brought before the Kumçiftiği (Orestiada) public prosecutor, while preliminary investigations have been assigned to the Border Guard Departments of Dimetoka (Didymoteicho), and Kumçiftliği (Orestiada), police said.

Authorities continue to investigate potential links between the three incidents as part of ongoing efforts to curb migrant trafficking across Greece’s northeastern border with Turkiye.
