Significant increase in passenger traffic at Nimfea border crossing in July

According to INSETE data, the number of people crossing this border in just one month surpassed the total for the first six months of 2024.

Nationally, there were 6.3 million international road crossings from January to July 2024, an increase of 762,000 compared to the 5.5 million crossings recorded in the same period in 2023, reflecting a 13.8% rise. During this period, 379,266 passengers passed through the Nimfea Border Crossing, representing an approximate 100,000 person increase (35.3%) compared to the same period last year.

In July alone, Greece saw a total of 2.3 million road crossings, marking an increase of approximately 277,000 (13.9%). The number of passengers passing through Nimfea in July reached 220,233, showing a significant rise of about 72,000 (48%). For comparison, during the first six months of 2024, the Nimfea Border Crossing recorded a total of 158,833 crossings.

While the July traffic surge at Nimfea is a positive development, approaching the record levels of 284,090 crossings set in July 2019, there is a pressing need for significant steps to be taken. The region should not only serve as a border crossing but also be developed as a preferred destination for tourists seeking accommodations.
