Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that modernization work on the Kipi Border Gate, which connects Türkiye and Greece, is set to be completed by the end of 2025. The project, with a budget of €12.9 million, aims to reduce vehicle crossing times by 75%.

In his statement, Mitsotakis said, “This initiative will not only modernize the Kipi Border Gate but also pave the way for upgrading other key border crossings, such as Çörekköy (Kastanies). For the first time in decades, our border infrastructure is being brought to European standards.”

The project includes comprehensive upgrades to building infrastructure and technological systems, aiming to facilitate faster services for both commercial and tourist traffic while ensuring more efficient customs controls.

With Bulgaria and Romania joining the Schengen Area as of January 2025, a significant increase in land crossings into Greece is expected. This modernization is anticipated to play a crucial role in managing the increased traffic and boosting economic and tourism-related activities.
