Sheep Pox outbreak reported on Samothrace

An outbreak of sheep pox has been detected among small livestock on the island of Samothrace.
Recent samples collected from local farms tested positive for the disease. In response, a team of veterinary experts has been dispatched to conduct inspections on the island. Measures will be taken to cull and safely dispose of the affected animals to prevent further spread.
Nikos Fotinias, Director of the Veterinary Department for the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Authority, stated in an interview with ERT that efforts are underway to ensure the culling of infected animals at the affected farms by the end of the week.
This marks the first case of sheep pox on Samothrace in nearly 30 years, with the last outbreak recorded in 1996, involving a single farm.
