A family vacation on the Greek island of Samothrace turned into a tragedy when a 47-year-old Romanian tourist was found dead near one of the island’s most remote and striking natural sites, Kremastos Waterfall.

According to local media, the man had set out alone on Thursday, 26 June, to explore Kremastos, a breathtaking but difficult-to-access waterfall located on the island. When he failed to return by evening, his worried wife alerted local authorities.

Search and Rescue Launched Immediately

Emergency services, including the Fire Department, the Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK), and the Coast Guard, promptly launched a coordinated search operation. On Friday morning, the man was discovered deceased in the middle section of the waterfall area. Reports state he had suffered a fatal head injury.

The man had been vacationing on the island with his wife and two children. His sudden death has shocked both the local community and fellow tourists, casting a shadow over the serene holiday destination.

An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
