Secondary education director's demand for shift education stirs controversy

Xanthi Minority Secondary School and High School started the new academic year with problems again. On the first day of the opening of the schools, the director of secondary education demanded shift education.
Although the classrooms of the Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School are available for morning education for all students, the Directorate of Secondary Education of Xanthi insists that some of the classrooms be used for afternoon education.
In recent years, the school, whose number of students has increased up to 740, has implemented a shift education system in the morning and afternoon. It was known that the number of students attending Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School, which had to apply the only shift education system in the region, had decreased in recent years, especially due to shift education. The 2023 - 2024 academic year started with 593 students in Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School and due to the decrease in the number of students, the school administration, the Board of Councillors and the Parent-Teacher Association announced that all students would start education as morning students as a result of consultations.
On the first day of the academic year, the Directorate of Secondary Education of Xanthi demanded that shift education be implemented in the school this year as well. The insistence of the Directorate of Secondary Education on shift education, which made many students and their parents unhappy, drew reaction. The issue will be discussed at a meeting of student parents on Friday, 15 September. The meeting will be held at 18.00 at the Xanthi Minority High School Sports Complex.
The statement of the Xanthi Minority Secondary School - High School Board of Trustees issued yesterday (Thursday, 14 September) is as follows
"Our school administration has informed you via e-mail that all of our students will be in morning classes this year as a result of consultations with the School Council and the Parent-Teacher Association. However, in order to evaluate with you, our parents, the unreasonable and unacceptable demands of the Directorate of Secondary Education since Monday (such as asking different classes to be at noon) and the verbal instructions given to the school administration and to determine the attitude to be adopted in the following process, we invite all our parents to a meeting to be held on Friday, 15 September 2023 at 18.00 on the sports site (field) of our school in Asaghimahhalle, Xanthi. Your participation is of great importance."
