Rodop Beekeepers Association seeks solutions to challenges

In their correspondence, the association outlined the critical situation beekeepers are facing, especially following the devastating wildfires of 2023 and the severe weather and climate changes that resulted in a 70% drop in honey production.
In the first letter, the beekeepers emphasized the need to prevent further destruction of grazing areas crucial for beekeeping activities. As a solution to help restore the lost vegetation, the association proposed planting acacia trees, which provide essential nutrition for bees and are well-suited to the region's environment.
In the second letter, the association highlighted broader challenges affecting the beekeeping sector, focusing on both environmental and economic risks. They presented detailed statistical data from meteorological reports, beekeeping centers, fire damage records, and agricultural cooperatives, emphasizing the significant decline in honey production.
