Firefighters battled five separate wildfire fronts across the Rodopi regional unit in northeastern Greece within a single day, as high temperatures and dry conditions heightened the risk of forest and rural fires.
According to local authorities, aerial firefighting aircraft and helicopters were deployed to assist ground crews in tackling the most significant blazes, including fires that broke out near Ergani and Pelagia. Emergency services worked to contain the fires and prevent them from spreading to nearby settlements and agricultural land.
No immediate reports of casualties were released, while firefighting operations continued in affected areas as authorities monitored weather conditions and the potential for further flare-ups.
The incidents highlight the increased wildfire threat facing Greece during the summer season, when prolonged heat and strong winds frequently contribute to rapid fire outbreaks across the country.
