Repair of the Bridge at the 8th kilometer of Xanthi–Stavroupoli Provincial Road delayed
The Independent United Initiative, led by Stergios Iliopoulos, has submitted a formal question to the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace concerning the prolonged delay in repairing the bridge located at the 8th kilometer of the Xanthi–Stavroupoli provincial road. The bridge has been operating in a semi-functional state for four years, with traffic and weight restrictions imposed since 2022, according to Traffic Police regulations.
This bridge serves as a crucial connection between the city and the mountainous region as well as the border with Bulgaria.
The Initiative’s inquiry calls for transparency regarding the existence of a repair study, the implementation timeline, project funding, and clarification on the measures to be taken to promptly ensure the safety of road users. Additionally, the Initiative requests information on the status of similar infrastructure projects across the entire region.
Criticism has been directed at the Regional Authority for prioritizing publicity campaigns over the maintenance and upgrading of infrastructure essential for the safety and proper functioning of the public road network.
