New Kompsatos Bridge in Yassıköy to receive programmable LED lighting

The Regional Committee of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region has approved a €237,559.20 procurement for the supply and installation of the lighting equipment, according to local news outlet Paratiritis tis Thrakis.

The project includes specialized LED fixtures, the necessary power supplies and equipment for remote management and programming. The contract also provides for two years of maintenance of the installed equipment.

The lighting system will allow programmable lighting scenarios that can be adjusted according to specific periods or occasions, including holidays, national anniversaries, cultural events and other special occasions.

The planned installation will illuminate several structural elements of the bridge. LED spotlights will be used to highlight the vertical supports of the safety barriers as well as the bridge's supporting columns and piers. Linear LED wall-washer fixtures will also illuminate recessed sections of the bridge structure and the bridge parapets.

According to the regional authority, the project is intended not only to enhance the bridge's architectural appearance but also to improve visibility for drivers at night. The authority says the lighting is expected to contribute to a more coherent and functional nighttime environment and improve road users' sense of safety. These are stated objectives of the project rather than independently established safety outcomes.

The new bridge over the Kompsatos River was opened to traffic on August 12, 2026, after almost nine years of disruption following the collapse of part of the previous bridge in September 2017. The new structure is 114 meters long, with an 11-meter-wide roadway and 2.25-meter-wide sidewalks on both sides.

With the planned lighting system, the regional authority aims to give the recently completed bridge a distinctive nighttime appearance while highlighting its architectural and structural features.
