Protest in İskeçe: Call for freedom for Gaza
The demonstration was organized in response to the deaths of over 41,182 people due to Israeli strikes since October 7, 2023, with prayers for the wounded and deceased.
The event was initiated by Mustafa Kambur, the head of the Misvaklı Mosque Foundation, and drew hundreds of Western Thrace Muslim Turks. The protest began at 12:00 PM at İskeçe’s city square, under the clock tower, with a recitation of the Qur’an by Emrah Şeh, Imam of İskeçe’s Atik Mosque. This was followed by a prayer led by İskeçe’s Deputy Mufti, Ahmet Hraloğlu.
In his speech, Kambur emphasized the need to stand in solidarity with oppressed Muslim brothers and called on all Muslims to protest the atrocities in Gaza. He also urged the boycott of Israeli products.
The crowd, holding banners for "Freedom for Palestine" and waving Palestinian flags, marched through the streets of Gümülcine, Miaouli, Tsimiski, and Mihali Karaoli, chanting in unison. The peaceful protest concluded back at the city square, where a final speech was delivered to thank participants for their support.
