Ozgur Ferhat brings the voice of fire victims from Rhodope to the parliamentary agenda
7 MPs from the New Left Party, led by Rodopi MP Özgür Ferhat, brought the government's negligence and insensitivity towards the fire victims to the parliamentary agenda.
"This disaster that occurred on 21 August should be compensated by the state resources and a second disaster should be prevented." Özgür Ferhat, MP, said in his parliamentary question to the ministers about the fire disaster and the situation of the citizens affected by the disaster:
"Although it has been 4 months since the great fire disaster, our compatriots continue to heal their wounds and they do not receive the slightest support from the government. The government's delay of the compensation money and the broken promises are dragging our people into a deadlock day by day.
In addition, the unreasonable delay of the ELGA Agricultural Insurance Institution for the damages incurred in animal husbandry and agriculture puts the farmers of the region in a difficult situation. In particular, the fact that the damage assessment procedures for the burnt olive trees have not yet been carried out, either intentionally or unintentionally, has exhausted the patience of our property owners. It should be noted that it is obvious that the time-lapsed determination works will affect the compensation calculations and the amount of compensation required will reach lower levels. In the same way, payment delays continue for other crops (tobacco, bee, etc.) damages.
Apart from the rotten poles sent by the Electricity Authority (ΔΕΗ), none of the promises made by Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Triandopoulos have been fulfilled!
Despite the promises made by Christos Triandopoulos, Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, a member of the staff of the Mitsotakis government, in front of dozens of our compatriots, no support has been given to our people. In addition, Narlıköy, Kozlardere and Susurköy, which are the main villages of Yaka region, are facing flood disaster in case of possible heavy rains.
This disaster that occurred on 21 August should be compensated by state resources and a second disaster should be prevented.
Authorised ministers are asked:
1. What is the reason for the delay in the compensation to be paid by the State and when will the victims of the fire be paid?
2. What measures have been taken to protect our villages from a possible flood disaster?
3. To reconsider adjustments to the way in which compensation is calculated and to review the damage
4. Do you plan to adapt it according to its actual size?
5. Do you plan to exempt disaster-affected citizens in Yassıköy and Maronia-Shapci Municipality from 2024 vehicle stamps?
What plans do you have to take measures to protect and restore forest areas, reforestation of burnt areas, environmental awareness and education?"
