Özgür Ferhat brings OPEKEPE satellite monitoring errors to Parliament

Özgür Ferhat, MP for Rhodope from the New Left Party, is bringing to Parliament the issue of errors in OPEKEPE’s satellite monitoring system (Greek Agricultural Payments and Control Organization), which have reportedly led to many farmers in Thrace being unfairly excluded from agricultural subsidies.

Ferhat announced that he will submit a parliamentary question to the Minister of Rural Development and Food next week, urging the government to take urgent corrective measures.

According to reports from Agricultural Declaration Centers (KYD), over 80% of this year’s farm declaration applications contained data inconsistencies. Due to technical errors, fields that were properly cultivated and harvested appeared in the system as “uncultivated.” This situation has caused widespread frustration and uncertainty among farmers, putting many local producers’ incomes at risk.

Ferhat emphasized the need for immediate corrective action, calling for the identification and resolution of system errors and for accountability and transparency from the responsible authorities.

In his statement, Ferhat said:

“The farmers of Thrace cannot be victims of the state’s technical failures. No one’s labor or income should be wasted due to OPEKEPE’s monitoring errors. Next week, I will officially bring this issue before Parliament and demand a clear explanation and action plan from the Minister of Agriculture. Thrace demands justice and respect for its labor.”

Ferhat’s intervention has once again drawn public attention to the longstanding complaints of Thracian farmers who have been unable to receive agricultural support payments due to these technical issues.
