Order for water quality check in Strymon and Dionys rivers by the Region of Rodopi

Mánolis Tapatzás, the Deputy Regional Governor of Rodopi, addressed the actions being taken by the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region (EMT) to assess the extent of the contamination in the Lissus river tributary, which runs near Strymon and Dionys. This contamination has raised significant concern among local residents and farmers, leading to complaints about an ecological disaster in the river.
Tapatzás explained that a formal complaint had been submitted to him personally, as well as to the regional health services, the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia-Thrace, and the Environmental Directorate of the region. Upon receiving the complaint, Tapatzás informed the Environmental Service in writing, which will then forward the case to the Control Center. The service officers are scheduled to visit the site to investigate the situation and determine the origin of the issue.
The Deputy Governor highlighted that the Livestock Committee would visit a nearby facility to check if the pollution is stemming from there. Additionally, the health services will collect water samples to assess the level of contamination.
Tapatzás emphasized that the Region has already initiated the necessary actions to clarify the situation, stressing that such conditions are not acceptable and must be addressed promptly.
