Neighbourhood residents rescue a woman beaten by her husband in Xanthi
An incident of domestic violence took place in the city centre of Xanthi. A young woman shouted "HELP" from the half-open window of an apartment and asked for "help". Neighbours called the police. The police reached the scene quickly and rescued the beaten woman.
The incident took place on Wednesday, 5 June at noon on M. Karaoli Street, one of the central streets of Xanthi. The woman who was beaten by her husband shouted "HELP" from the half-open window. Her neighbours called the police and helped her to escape.
After the neighbours who witnessed the incident called the police, a police team of 8 people arrived at the scene in a short time. The police entered the flat where the incident took place. They rescued the woman who was subjected to domestic violence. The attacker who said he was her husband was handcuffed and arrested.
Police teams started an investigation into the incident.
1,535 CASES OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE EAST MACEDONIA AND THRACE REGION IN 3.5 YEARS
On the other hand, the Police Directorate announced that a total of 1,535 cases of domestic violence have been detected in the Province of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in the last 3.5 years.
In the first 6 months of 2024, a total of 171 cases were detected.
The Police Headquarters announced that FAMILY VIOLENCE SUPPORT OFFICES will soon be operational in all provinces of the Eastern Macedonian Thrace Province.
It was reminded that 8 specialists will work in each unit.
