Municipality of Komotini restarts dog love programme in schools
The Municipality of Komotini will organise the education programme for schoolchildren to make them love dogs again this year.
A training programme to instil dog love in school students will be implemented with experts.
Certified dog trainer Babis Koukouzelis' and assistant veterinarian Evangelia Moutousidou, representing the municipal dog shelter, will inform primary and secondary school pupils about dog love.
In this respect, the Mayor of Komotini, Yannis Garanis, made a request to the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education in Rhodope to inform school principals about the programme approved by the Ministry of Education.
The duration of the training on dog love in schools will be two dest hours.
The training programme will consist of two stages, theoretical and practical.
In the theoretical stage, the students will be shown videos and visuals in the classrooms, giving information about the position of the dog in society and how to approach stray animals.
The second phase will take place outdoors. The specially trained dog Labrador LEXIS will be involved in the training at this stage. The application will enable children to approach him and understand the different roles of dogs such as companion, guide and rescuer.
Dog trainer Babis Kukuzelis is known for his rich training experience, either on an individual level or through the Alexandroupolis-based Animal Welfare Association "Kivotos".
The educational programme to be implemented in schools aims to promote philanthropy, to teach children who want to adopt a dog about their obligations, from walking and proper nutrition to taking care of their health, as well as to accustom them to being active and conscious citizens.
Through the re-introduction of the training programme, children will have the opportunity to learn about the current legislation on dogs.
