Özgür Ferhat, Rodopi MP from the New Left Party, has appealed to the Ministry of Finance for fair adjustments to tax exemption policies affecting small rural communities.
MP Özgür Ferhat calls for fair tax exemption regulations for villages

According to a statement from MP Ferhat's office, many villages and small settlements with populations under 1,500 are excluded from tax exemptions due to outdated administrative decisions that classify them as unified municipal entities. This situation has led to economic challenges for communities that, while meeting population criteria individually, lose their eligibility when counted collectively under a single municipality.

Examples of Exclusion and Economic Hardships

One notable example is the Bulatköy Municipality under the Yassıköy administration, consisting of six small villages (Bulatköy, Gebecili, Eşekçili, Ayazma, Sendelli, and Yuvacılı). Although Gebecili has only 252 residents, all six villages are assessed collectively, preventing each village from independently qualifying for tax exemptions. Similar issues are faced by the villages of Muratlı, Yahyabeyli, and Kuşlanlı in the Maronia-Sapçi Municipality.

Concerns and Requests

Need for Fair Tax Policies: Ferhat emphasized that tax policies should consider the needs of residents in small rural communities to support local economic activities and promote regional development.

Enhanced Tax Exemption Rights: He called for a fair system that allows disadvantaged and remote areas to benefit from tax relief, aiding local businesses and residents.

Questions for the Ministry: Ferhat posed the following questions to the Ministry of Finance:

  1. What steps will be taken to ensure tax exemptions for small settlements?
  2. Is there a plan to assess each village’s population independently for tax exemption purposes?
  3. Will there be specific support for villagers in disadvantaged and remote areas to sustain their economic activities?

Ferhat concluded by stressing that fair adjustments to current tax laws could alleviate the financial burden on rural residents and stimulate local economies.
