Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis announces reinforcement of Police Forces in Xanthi
Immediate deployment of police officers to Drosero and 50 new border guard recruitments were announced by Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis during his presence at the New Democracy local committee’s (DEEP Xanthi) New Year’s cake-cutting event.
Strengthening Law Enforcement in Xanthi
The minister outlined several key measures, including:
✅ Deployment of police officers to areas with vulnerable populations, such as Drosero, to tackle crime.
✅ Recruitment of 50 new border guards to enhance security in the Xanthi region.
✅ Expansion of the Xanthi Police Academy, increasing the number of cadet positions from 150 to 400.
✅ Additional 15 border guard hires to fill vacancies from a previous recruitment process.
Focus on Border Security and Crime Prevention
Chrysochoidis highlighted Xanthi as a city of culture and productivity, emphasizing the importance of strong border security.
🗣️ “We are doing an excellent job in Thrace, continuously reinforcing personnel and employing new technology,” he stated.
🔹 The newly recruited border guards will enhance surveillance along the Egnatia Highway, provincial road network, and the Greek-Bulgarian border, helping to combat illegal migration.
Increased Police Presence in Drosero
After receiving reports from the local police department and union representatives, the minister committed to immediate action aimed at improving public safety.
🔹 “We will deploy police officers to high-crime areas such as Drosero, ensuring that residents feel increasingly secure in their communities,” he announced.
These measures are part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance law enforcement in Thrace and strengthen border control efforts.
