On Tuesday, 9 July, Minister Mendoni, together with the directors of the Ministry of Culture accompanying her, went to Dimetoka and participated in a meeting held to evaluate the repair and restoration works carried out at the Mosque of Çelebi Sultan Mehmet.

The meeting was attended by the President of the Province of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christodoulos Topsidis, as well as the Vice-President of the Province responsible for Evros, the Mayor of Dimetoka and other officials. Mendoni emphasised that the restoration works should be completed by 31 December 2025. Stating that the restoration works should be carried out carefully, the Minister of Culture stated that he will return to the region on 7 August to closely examine the works. Mendoni said, "The restoration of a work is first of all a scientific and technical issue. For this reason, we need to be here to see the project on site and to solve possible problems." The restoration of the Çelebi Sultan Mehmet (Beyazıt) Mosque in Dimetoka, one of the most important Turkish-Islamic monuments in the Balkans, which was severely damaged by fire in 2017, is financed by the Recovery Fund. The project is worth 13.5 million euro.
