Komotini Municipality to host event for World Stray Animals Day

In collaboration with the Municipal Shelter, the Municipality of Komotini will organize an event on Friday, April 4, 2025, in honor of World Stray Animals Day, aiming to promote love and care for stray dogs.
According to Article 31 of Law 4830/2021 ("New Framework for the Welfare of Companion Animals – Argos Program and Other Provisions, Official Gazette A' 169") and Recommendation No. 15 of the Institute for Educational Policies (March 7, 2024), the Greek Ministry of Education has officially designated April 4 as the National Animal Welfare Day in schools.

The event will feature veterinarian İsmail Molla Ali Mehmet, veterinary assistant and shelter representative Evangelia Moutsidou, certified dog trainer Babis Koukouzelis, and a specially trained Labrador retriever named LEXIS.
Additionally, the event is supported by Antonis Liapis, President of the LAIMA Animal Welfare Association, along with numerous volunteer animal lovers.
Activities at the Event
Educational Talks: Discussions with children and organizers about pet adoption and animal care.
Photography Contest: A competition featuring images of stray animals.
Art Corner: A special area where children can draw and paint.
Treasure Hunt & Relay Races: Games incorporating riddles about animals.
Donation Drive: Children and teachers can bring pet food, medicines, blankets, and unused sheets for donation to animal shelters via the LAIMA Association. This initiative will teach children about volunteering and compassion.
Pet Care Packages: Kids will prepare small care kits with pet food provided by the Komotini Municipality and distribute them to stray animals.
Face Painting: A fun activity for children.
Eco-Friendly Shelter Building: Participants will construct shelters for stray animals using recyclable and eco-friendly materials such as wood and paper.
This meaningful event aims to raise awareness among both children and adults about animal welfare, encouraging kindness, responsibility, and community support for stray animals.
