Komotini municipal council approves new urban traffic regulations

The Komotini Municipal Council has approved a series of changes to traffic and parking regulations across the city, following a meeting held on March 31, 2025. The measures, adopted under decision 56/2025, aim to improve accessibility, traffic flow, and safety in several neighborhoods.
KEY CHANGES TO TRAFFIC AND PARKING
Among the approved measures is the creation of a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Ipsilantou and Vosporou Streets. Several new designated parking spots for people with disabilities (A.m.e.A) will be established, including near Nikitara Street No. 8, on Filippoupoleos Street, and at Evrou 37. In addition, the council approved a new A.m.e.A parking space on L. Iroon Street, behind the area reserved for cash transport vehicles in front of Piraeus Bank, and another at the old Prefecture Building on Demokratias 1, near the Ethniki Bank.
The council also approved two hotel guest parking spaces in front of the “OLYMPOS” hotel on Orfeos Street. Previous decisions regarding parking for this hotel were annulled, and the existing loading/unloading signage in front of the hotel will be removed. The current loading/unloading area at the beginning of the block remains in use by local businesses.
NEW RESTRICTIONS AND DESIGNATED AREAS
Parking and stopping are now prohibited in front of private parking entrances at various addresses, including on Agios Kosmas Aitolos Street (near "Çıkmaz E"), D. Tsetine 2, and D. Vizvizi 1. A similar restriction will apply at the intersection of N. Zoidis and Kosmiou Streets, where vertical and horizontal signage will also be installed.
Additional changes include the relocation of the loading/unloading zone from Orfeos 9A to the intersection of Ioanninon and Orfeos Streets. In the Fener district, two regular parking spaces will be designated for a local business. A new loading/unloading space will also be created at L. Iroon 18-20, and another will be added next to the existing motorcycle parking on the right side of D. Tsetine Street.
TAXI AND MOTORCYCLE PARKING RELOCATIONS
The taxi stand across from Ethniki Bank on Orfeos Street will be adjusted. Three parking spots at the start of the stand will be removed and replaced with new taxi spaces at the intersection of Orfeos and Synt. Kriton Streets (behind the Avant Garde store). Additional taxi parking will be created between the current hotel parking and the existing loading zone at Orfeos 37–41.
The loading/unloading area on S. Komninu Street will be relocated to the right side just past the Komninu and Kaveiron intersection. In the Kirsaritsa district, P-2 (Stop) and P-32 (Speed Limit 30 km/h) signs will be installed on selected roads to enhance safety.
CANCELLED DECISIONS AND FURTHER PLANS
The council has annulled a 2015 decision that reserved an ambulance parking space at D. Delivani 5, as the associated business is no longer in operation. Furthermore, the P-40 traffic sign in front of the “OLYMPOS” hotel will be removed. Finally, a new motorcycle parking area will be created at the intersection of D. Tsetine and N. Zoidis Streets.
As part of an update to a 2017 decision, the council also approved modifications to the disabled parking area near the Rodopi Disabled Association offices on V. Pavlou Street. An additional A.m.e.A space will be created, with its exact location to be determined by the municipal technical services.
