Kasselakis pays visit Komotini and Xanthi
Stefanos Kasselakis, President of the main opposition SYRIZA party, visited Komotini and Xanthi. Kasselakis attended the ceremony organised for the anniversary of the annexation of Komotini to Greece.
After the ceremony, Kasselakis spoke to the citizens and took photos with them, accompanied by retired admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, who served as defence minister during the SYRIZA period.
VISIT TO THE APPOINTED MUFTI
During his visit to Komotini, Kasselakis visited and met with Metropolitan Panteleimon of Maronia - Komotini and Cihat Şerif, the appointed Mufti of Komotini appointed by the state and not recognised by the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace.
SYRIZA President stated during his visit to Komotini that Thrace is an exemplary region where Christians and Muslims live in harmony. Kasselakis stated that the party supports the strengthening of the policy of equality before the law.
CONTACTS IN XANTHI
SYRIZA President Stefanos Kasselakis visited Xanthi on Tuesday afternoon to meet with the people, talk to them and have his photo taken. In the evening Kasselakis chatted with his friends and party members in the cafeteria "Kivernio".
Kasselakis was welcomed here by the Secretary of SYRIZA Xanthi Provincial Organisation Tasos Karadedos, SYRIZA candidates for the European Parliament Nikos Pappas and Panagiotis Kouroumblis, friends and party members.
During the meeting, the Vice-President of Xanthi Polikseni Brika also had a conversation with the President of SYRIZA.
Kasselakis said the following about his visit to Xanthi: "The figures showing that Greece, together with Bulgaria, is at the bottom of Europe's purchasing power and the food inflation prove once again why the covered bazaar of Xanthi is "silent"." He described Thrace as a neglected region and noted that this "silence" proves why those living in rural areas are impoverished as well as in the city centre.
VAT SHOULD BE ZERO
Kasselakis called on the Ministry of Economy for the development of the region and the welfare of the people, inviting the state to introduce ZERO VAT on basic consumer goods in the region.
Kasselakis visited the state-appointed mufti in Xanthi, just like in Komotini, and said that Christians and Muslims live in peace and tranquility in the region.
On Wednesday morning, Kasselakis visited shopkeepers within the framework of his Xanthi visit programme and then left Xanthi for Kavala.
On the other hand, the main opposition party leader Kasselakis' visit to the muftis appointed by the state with arbitrary laws and decrees violating the Lausanne Treaty and international law during his visits to Komotini and Xanthi was met with reaction by the Muslim Turkish Minority of Western Thrace.
